Leet Speak (1337 5p34k)

Posted under Classroom Life

Leet speak or 1337 5p34k was developed in the 1990’s for hackers and gamers that devoted most of there time for there preferred profession. Originally it was just “Elite” or “Leet” as a adjective to describe such people who were of extreme prowess and skill. It eventually evolved into changing words and adding things to them. It went from “Oh wow man, you’re so leet!” to “Z0mg d00d y0u r0ckx0rz!”. Went from a descriptive term to a language alltogether. After a while it went on a run-away cycle to become a language a life-style and a culture. It has come to span online computer games mostly (Not many console games cant ype number and letters) Going from Quake 4, Halo series on computer, CoD4 (I dont know but im pretty dang sure) World of Warcraft (most famously) Runescape and many many others.

What is HTML?

Posted under Tutorials

HTML, is the Hypertext Markup Language.  HTML is the predominant markup language for Web pages.  The HTML would look like this….

<html>

<head>

<title> Your Title Here </title>

</head>

<body>

</body>

</html>

In the <head> area of the HTML code you are able to you are able to write in the title of the webpage.  In the body of the webpage you are able to decide the links, headings, paragraphs, lists, color of font, background, the font size, images and many other creative things that you are able to do in a HTML code.  Just try different things and if you do not like one thing try a different path.  The files and the URLS containing HTML often have ended the filenames in .html or .htm.

On the other hand.

I never knew how much work was put into making a website until I took Web Design. Learning HTML, JavaScript & CSS was pretty tough, but finding websites such as www.dynamicdrive.com can make things much easier. DynamicDrive offers alot of javascripts to add cool effects to your pages such as games and cursors. Another great site is http://www.freecsstemplates.org/ , where they offer templates to give your pages a cool look and style. And the best thing about these two sites are there free! No paying whatsoever.  Without these helpful websites, learning straight from the book could be a long boring process.

Learning New Things EveryDay

Posted under Classroom Life

Ok. So, While many of the Web Design 2 students took Web Design 1 with Mr. Melito, I took it online so I learned on Dreamweaver and Fireworks and things of that sort. While I knew of HTML and CSS and JavaScript I was not an expert to say as some of the other students. So, I kind of half learned alot of the stuff over again and some of the things I didnt know like inserting boxes, forms, and the whole scrolling background thing. It was very intresting to learn of all the different things to do with HTML, CSS and Javascript considering I am so used to using Dreamweaver. Personally, I prefer JavaScript, while it is extremely more complicated it is way more fun because of the cool things to do and all of the things you can see with the different effects. You can have things bouncing around the screen, or text flashing, or just text going around in the middle saying OHH YEAH! with a Kool-aid Man background like I did. In general, the class is very fun and educational and I learn new things everyday.

Some cool facts.

Posted under Cool Internet Finds

Did you know that only 4.6 million people in the U.S. used the internet in 1993? Compare it to 2008 where 215 million people are using the internet daily. That is nearly 47 times more people using the internet within a 15 year span. So how does this information affect you? It affects you because more and more people are being opened to newer technology everyday and you should be up-to-date so as not to be left behind. A way you can keep up with the expansion of technology and computer use in general is by taking a Web Design class, which can strengthen your knowledge of how computers are ran in a fun and creative way. This class would also be a good choice to take if you plan on entering a career in graphic design, technology, or business.

So Far in Web 2!

Posted under What's on my mind

After web 1 and all the new things i learned from the class i just had to see what web 2 would be all about. So far i have learned a lot of easier ways to make a website such as using css, or also an easier way for putting javascript on a website. My uncle who has his own business asked me last year if i wanted to make a website for his business, and now that i know more about HTML i can make a website without any trouble at all. All the projects we did this 9 weeks were very challenging, i would have to say that the most challenging of them was javascript because if you make one little error in any part of your HTML codes then the whole thing would have something wrong with it, and you would have to search through the whole thing to find the mistake. I found that css made it a lot easier to make a website, because just on css you can control a website that has many pages with css, you can even change all the text on each page using css, and you can put the same images on each page.

Wix.com – Free Easy Flash Website Creator

Posted under Cool Internet Finds

Wix.com was a really cool page I found while searching the Web for free Myspace Flash Pages.  I stumbled upon Wix, read what it was all about, and couldn’t believe it was free.  Wix.com is a free flash website creator with lots of perks, and “widgets” that would take days to go through.  It takes literally five minutes to create a web page.  So far, I have created the Citrus High Marching Canes page with Wix, as well as my Myspace.  You can also make more professional pages such as a page for your Business. The possibilities are endless.  Wix now offers the option to upgrade for $5.95 a month and all of the Wix.com branding will disappear except for the load screen.  Really in my opinion, this is good and bad deal.  If your the kind of person that can’t stand having an ad on your page, then the $5.95 is worth it.  If your the kind of person that really doesn’t care, there is currently a way to remove at least one of the ads for free in the coding without paying a dime.  Then you just have to deal with the load screen and side bar.  Wix.com is completely worth a look, and I’m sure you’ll be amazed at all it can do.

Sweet&Simple

Posted under Classroom Life

Javascript can become pretty complicated and it may take years to fully understand it.  As for me, I’m more of a simple person.  I like to make websites but I just do not have the time to become a Javascript expert.  There are many websites that offer free javascript coding.  All you have to do is follow the simple instructions and you can have an awesome website with special effects.  I went to http://dynamicdrive.com/ and found some pretty neat effects for my website such as falling snow or a fancy cursor.  Some effects require a little more work but many are simply copy and paste.  So when you see javascript coding don’t freak out!  This is a quick and easy way that makes you look like a computer expert!

How has HTML been useful?

Posted under What's on my mind

After my Web Design 1 class I had to sign up for Web Design 2. I feel like knowing HTML and furthering my knowledge could be useful later on in life. It is a hands on skill that i have used to look at coding’s for myspace, games and other websites. Its like knowing another language in a strange way. Also its not like knowing it could be a bad thing. My neighbor (who is a little weird) hunts supernatural things. I mean what they do is their business, but they wanted a website done for their “hobby”. They asked me to do it. Websites aren’t free, who doesn’t want some extra money in their pocket, especially nowadays. Some websites can be a lot of money if you get into the profession. In fact you could make a living on it. With whatever your career interests are, you could always use HTML as a side job.
